January 2020 Message from Linda Moore, Chair

I am so proud to be a member of the Craven County Democratic Party.  We believe in American values of –

  • An economy with opportunity, prosperity, and jobs for all
  • Great public schools for every child
  • Clean water and air, ensuring America’s environmental health
  • Affordable health care for all, and
  • A government that works for everyone

As the impeachment trial continues and the primaries approach, we are seeing increased negativity on both sides, both nationwide and locally. Although I, of course, disagree with much of the opposing party’s narrative about Democrats, I refuse to be drawn into name calling or misrepresenting the values of others. I believe it does little good to engage in such negativity, and in fact it can be detrimental to our goals. Dr. King said, “I must oppose any attempt to gain our freedom by the methods of malice, hate, and violence that have characterized our oppressors.” Michelle Obama said, “When they go low, we go high.” Let’s try to follow that path through the primaries and the November elections.

All elections are important, but this one seems to represent a defining moment for our nation. We are at a crossroads – a moment of truth if you will – for our democratic values. In this moment of crisis, more than ever, our duty to our country demands that we all vote. It is of utmost importance that you do what you can to make sure that your family, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances vote. EVERY VOTE COUNTS AND EVERY VOTE MATTERS. Moreover, with all of the opportunities provided, there simply is no excuse for not voting.

The primary One-Stop (Early Voting) begins on February 13, 2020 at 4 locations, they are:

  • Board of Elections, 406 Craven St., New Bern
  • Cove City Fire Dept., 425 S Main St., Cove City
  • Vanceboro Fire Dept., 375 NC Hwy 43, Vanceboro
  • New Beginnings Ministry of Faith, 30 Park Lane, Havelock

One-Stop Voting Times are:

Weekdays beginning Thursday, February 13 through Saturday, February 29: 8 AM– 7:30 PM

Sunday, February 16: 1– 5:00 PM

Saturday, February 22 and 29: 8 AM– 3 PM

You will not be required to show photo ID for the March 3, 2020 primary election.

I hope you will join us in working together to elect Democrats in 2020 to all levels of the government – national, state and county. Please get involved with your precinct; they are vital in getting out information and the vote. And you are always welcome at Craven County Democratic Party monthly gatherings on the 4th Monday of each month at our office at 1232 S. Glenburnie Road. The meeting starts at 6:30 PM with a meet and greet starting at 5:45 PM when we serve light refreshments.
