“The Bill of Rights: A User’s Guide” Book Signing @ Cullman Performance Hall, North Carolina History Center
Jul 27 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Linda Monk, New Bern resident and author of numerous books about the U.S. Constitution, will give a presentation on the 150th Anniversary of the 14th Amendment and sign copies of her most recent book, The Bill of Rights: A User’s Guide.

Each attendee will receive a signed copy of the book, included in your $30 ticket price. Silver- and Gold-Level event sponsorships are also available on the ticket purchase page.

The Bill of Rights: A User’s Guide explores the history of the first ten amendments to the Constitution, known as the Bill of Rights. This newly-revised edition, with a foreword by Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, describes the history of each right in the Bill of Rights and explains how the Supreme Court has interpreted those rights. It also tells the stories of many “ordinary” people who have helped keep the Bill of Rights a living document – not just an artifact stored under glass at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. Making the Bill of Rights come alive in our communities is the best way to secure those rights for generations to come. The book also examines the 14th Amendment, which extended new rights of equality to all. The Bill of Rights: A User’s Guide won the American Bar Association’s Silver Gavel Award, its highest honor for public education about the law.

Linda R. Monk, J.D., is a constitutional scholar, journalist, and award-winning author. A graduate of Harvard Law School, she twice received the American Bar Association’s Silver Gavel Award, its highest honor for public education about the law. The author of three books, she served as a Visiting Scholar at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. She has consulted for museums in Chicago, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. For more than 25 years, she has written commentary for newspapers nationwide, and she has appeared on television and radio. She served on the Board of Trustees for the U.S. Capitol Historical Society, and she has conducted seminars for such groups as the Pentagon, National Archives, Fulbright Scholars, and George Washington’s Mount Vernon.
