Inauguration Message from the Chair

January 20, 2021
Message from the Craven County Democratic Party Chair

What a wonderful day it has been for the swearing in of President Biden as the 46th
President of the United States of America and Kamala Harris as the first Vice President
who is female, African American, and of South Asian descent. I watched all of today’s
events, from President Trump leaving the White House to President Biden signing
Executive Orders. It was truly inspiring to witness the peaceful transition of power in this
country with representatives of both parties present. It was a day marked with historic
firsts, and rising hopes for the nation.

I hope we can begin to see bipartisan work on the important issues facing the nation.
President Biden laid out the four most important issues he wants to address, beginning
with the pandemic, the impact on the economy it has caused, the cry for racial justice,
and the environment.

As President Biden said in his speech after being sworn in, “We’ve learned again that
democracy is precious. Democracy is fragile. And at this hour, my friends, democracy
has prevailed… My whole soul is in it. Today, on this January day, my whole soul is in
this: bringing America together, uniting our people, uniting our nation. And I ask every
American to join me in this cause.”

My fellow Craven County Democrats, thank you for all your hard work in this election,
but our work is not done. We must continue to work for the good of the people of
Craven County and to bring people together for the good of us all. In President Biden’s
words, “Uniting to fight the foes we face, anger, resentment and hatred, extremism,
lawlessness, violence, disease, joblessness and hopelessness. With unity, we can do
great things, important things.”
