January Meeting Summary

Our first meeting of 2018 was a great success, showcasing the energy and drive of Democrats to turn Craven County blue in 2018! 64 people joined us for the meeting — including several energetic young people attending their first Democratic meeting — packing our room at Famous Restaurant to capacity!

We heard from Rachel Bisesi, Coastal Education Coordinator for the North Carolina Coastal Federation, who talked to us about the important education and advocacy work done by NCCF. In response to questions at the meeting, she particularly emphasized NCCF’s advocacy work in opposition to oil drilling off the coast of North Carolina, and the environmental hazard that represents. Those who are interested in more news about ongoing efforts to protect North Carolina’s beautiful coastline are encouraged to visit the NCCF website or subscribe to NCCF’s newsletter, the Coastal Review.

Our other speaker was Terri Sharp, Clerk of Court, who reviewed the important role played by clerks of court in North Carolina. Ms. Sharp is a Democrat up for reelection in 2018, and many in the room complimented her on the excellent campaign she ran in 2014 to win the office.

We also met some of our Democratic candidates for the state legislature and county office this November — including one potential candidate who threw her hat into the ring that night! But we’ve still got a few offices that we need to contest… if you’re interested in running for local office, please contact 2nd Vice Chair Helen Robinson, who is chairing our Pipeline Committee, at 2nd.vice.chair@cravendemocrats.org.

Our next county meeting will be on Monday, February 26, at 5:30pm, at Famous Restaurant. Please join us!
